IoT opens up tremendous opportunities for optimizing plant operations. By connecting once-standalone equipment and machinery to industrial networks, manufacturers can have an overall view of plant activities to make timely adjustments. Therefore, industrial networks must be tightly secured, allowing only authorized traffic to pass while holding unsolicited connection attempts at bay. To counter security menaces, NEXCOM has designed the DNA 1510 with performance and ruggedness to impose IoT endpoints protection on plant floors.
NEXCOM has unveiled industry firewall platform DNA 1510, based on Cavium OCTEON® III CN7010 processor, to help manage security risks coming with the industrial internet of things (IIoT). In hostile industrial environments the industrially hardened DNA 1510 provides close and strict protection for industrial machinery and control systems, reliably guarding industrial networks from both external intruders and internal threats.
To strengthen the implementation and enforcement of security policies and protection the IoT Endpoints, the industry firewall platform DNA 1510 powered by Cavium OCTEON III CN7010 processor is equipped with dedicated hardware acceleration engines handling networking and security workload. With enhancements in networking, load balancing, quality of service (QoS), deep packet inspection (DPI), and cryptography, the DNA 1510 can filter traffic based on granular rules.
Depending on application needs, the DNA 1510 can stop packets sent from illegitimate IP addresses from forwarding, restrict external access to demilitarized zones (DMZ), and detect and intercept suspicious messages encapsulated in common packets. The DNA 1510 can also connect remote workers with encrypted communication channels, reducing the risk of data eavesdropping and tampering during the transfer.
With respect to operating conditions where industrial machinery and control systems are operated, the DNA 1510 is designed in accordance with IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards to stand up to the challenges in power station and substation environments. For instance, the industry firewall has electromagnetic interferences (EMI) and supports an extended temperature range of -40 to 75 degree Celsius and flexible power supply from 12V to 72VDC.
While the industrial Ethernet has become mainstream, attacks against industrial control systems have doubled from 2013 to 2014 according to Dell’s Annual Threat Report. Mitigating security risks is as important as increasing operational efficiency when deploying IoT and thus requires industry firewalls.
